MOSHOLU MONTEFIORE COMMUNITY CENTER mission is to improve the lives of Bronx and Manhattan residents with dedication to humanitarian efforts; reaching out to a rich tapestry of cultures, building gateways to success through quality service and programs, building confidence, sustainability and working toward self-sufficiency for the individuals we serve.
School’s Out New York City (SONYC)—a pathway to success for youth in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades—offers afterschool programming for New York City (NYC) middle schoolers in a variety of activity areas. SONYC programs provide middle school youth with the support of caring adults and offer engaging, fun activities during the afterschool hours. SONYC programs are designed to support five goals:
1. Foster academic, social, and emotional competencies and physical well-being in a safe and nurturing environment.
2. Provide opportunities for youth to explore their interests and creativity.
3. Build skills that support academic achievement and raise participant expectations and confidence.
4. Cultivate youth leadership and community engagement.
5. Engage parents and other caretakers to support the above goals.
SONYC at PS/MS 95 supports both the MMCC mission and the SONYC goals by providing students with leadership training that provides social and emotional competency as well as teach student to be civic minded and engage in the communities of which they are a part. SONYC at PS/MS 95 also provides students with activities and clubs (such as Sports, Photography, STEM, Dance, Band, and multiple trips and excursions) to help expand their horizons, explore their interests and ignite their creativity. Our program staff works with families to help students take advantage of all these opportunities and grow to be valuable members of our society.
