WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
Reading: Students are becoming great readers! We have been working on sequencing of a story by using the beginning, middle and the end events. Now, we will work on getting to know the characters in our stories using external and internal character traits.
Writing: Students have been working with labeling their drawings as well as adding words to complete sentences. We will now start working with sentence structure and various strategies to become better writers!
Mathematics: Students have been working on counting objects and using a ten frame. Students have also been working on identifying greater than and less than numbers.
Science:. As scientists we have been working on our plant unit. Students have engaged in a numerous projects and activities to learn the life cycle of plants and other living organisms as well as human impact on the environment We will soon start unit 2 about pushes and pulls!
Social Studies:Students have been learning about different cultures and celebrations in the United States. Students have also learned about important symbols in the United States, the American Flag and how people honor the United States.
Reading Students will continue to learn different types of reading strategies to help them become fluent readers. Students will also become familiar with story elements
Writing: Students will continue working on their personal narratives. We will continue to add many details to our narratives.
Mathematics: Students have been learning different strategies to solve subtraction problems. They have also been practicing how to solve word problems as well as building their fluency with basic math facts.
Science: Students have been learning about animal and plant defenses. They will continue learning about how animals defend themselves from predators.
Social Studies: Students will continue to learn how families and the different modes of transportation have changed over time.
Reading:We have been learning about the different types of text structures for nonfiction texts such as: description, sequencing, cause and effect, problem and solution, and compare and contrast. In Fundations, we are working multi-syllable words.
Writing: In writing, we have finished our first unit on personal narratives and have now begun our second unit, which is Informational Writing. The students will become experts on finding facts on a topic.
Mathematics: In math, we have begun our 3rd math unit. Throughout this math unit, we are learning different math strategies that can be used to subtracts 2-digit numbers. We are also using those strategies to solve subtraction word problems.
Science: In science, we have been learning about plant and animal relationships. We have been investigating how seeds get dispersed.
Social Studies: In social studies, we have begun our second unit. This unit’s primary focus is how New York City has changed and developed over time.
