DreamYard

Picture
Dream Yard started as an idea sparked by a group of young people who wrote a play about a place where children could go to dream in 1994. In 1999, Dream Yard decided to work exclusively in the Bronx because of the generational need and the belief that the organization could most effectively impact change with limited resources if they focused their work in one community.

PS/MS 95 has partnered with Dream Yard for over 13 years. Visual arts, drama, various styles of dance, and slam poetry create invaluable learning experiences for students. A teaching artist is assigned to a participating classroom. It is the responsibility of the artist and teacher to collaboratively create lesson plans to provide a cohesive learning experience for the students. Students are also given the opportunity to attend an after school session of Dream Yard that focuses on visual arts or drama.

DreamYard In School Programs provides over 150 residencies and after school companies at over 45 Bronx public schools. All In School Programs seek to build arts programs, increase teacher skills and knowledge, and use the arts as a tool to support curriculum and inspire learning.  In School Programs combine Standards-based arts instruction with social justice pedagogy principles to inspire students to develop character, scholarship and artistic voice to create change. We offer residencies in Poetry, Visual Art, Theater, Dance, Music, and Maker via two different 30 week program models.
