Chorus 95 began in 2011 with 11 students and has grown to over 25 members. The goal of the chorus is to develop students’ vocal talent in:
- Vocal techniques and dynamics
- Music theory
- Lyric interpretation
- Performance experience
Auditions are opened every September to students in the 4th grade. The students then remain in Chorus 95 until they graduate. Over the years, their music knowledge, vocal technique, and performance confidence grow, giving the students an outlet for expression through music.
Chorus 95 meets twice weekly from October through June. The chorus participates in PS/MS 95X’s Arts Festival with a Chamber Concert for parents and teachers and in the final arts evening presentation. Chorus 95 also has presented to the Van Cortlandt Seniors group, the St. Patrick’s Home for seniors requiring extended care, the Van Cortlandt Classic basketball court groundbreaking, and the Bronx Arts Festival. In house, Chorus 95 has performed in Moving Up ceremonies and the 8th Grade Graduation, as well as caroling during Christmas.
